I've been down here in Mexico for a month now working on Spark, spending time with Bridget, my three year old sons, Charlie and Harry and surfing. We live in Sayulita, Nayarit, just north of Puerto Vallarta. It's a little beach community of a couple of thousand people. While it's a great place to practice engaged disconnection and write Spark I have been suprised by the wave of people that have "discovered" Sayulita. It's been a bit overwhelming, lately.
When we first bought our house eight years ago you'd rarely see a gringo in town. Now there is not a day that goes by when I don't recognize somebody on the beach from Boulder, our more perminent residance. Everyone that comes down talks about the stress they are under. They all talk about wanting to disconnect for awhile. It seems that we all need that.
Yet, it's important to stay engaged in the community of your peers, friends and family, as well. Hence, I'm constantly reminded that it's an important balancing act to find a place where you can practice engaged disconnection.
